چکیده
Abstract Background Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is common yet often undiagnosed in older people as symptoms of fatigue and poor sleep are non-specific. OSA screening tools also lack validity patients. This study aims to review the clinical presentation, use treatment adherence people. Methods A retrospective cohort patients >65 years attending a tertiary clinic who underwent polysomnography for suspected was performed. Electronic patient records were reviewed obtain information on scores, reports initiated. Correlation between variables performed using Pearson’s correlation co-efficient represented R-score. To compare CPAP usage with younger people, controls <65 matched 2:1 ratio severity (mild, moderate or severe) at diagnosis. Comparison rates Mann-Whitney U-test Z-scores. Results convenience sample 100 consecutive included. Fatigue present 53% witness reported snoring 86% apnoeas 56%. Moderate severe confirmed by 91% cases. BMI STOP-BANG questionnaire positively correlated measured Hypopnea Index, while ESS Berlin Questionnaire not. Positive pressure ventilation initiated 90% extremely effective median AHI falling within normal range follow up. significantly higher compared control (85% vs 66% p=013). Conclusion Older classical symptoms. STOP -BANG values other lacked validity. Treatment highly efficacious high should be considered first-line

Validation of automated sleep stage and apnoea analysis in suspected obstructive sleep apnoea.
Full-night polysomnography is necessary for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). However, analysis of the sleep stages and apnoeas is time-consuming. Computer systems for automated analysis have, thus, been developed to alleviate this task. We investigated 27 consecutive patients referred to our sleep laboratory with suspected OSA. The analysis of sleep stages and apnoeas was perfor...

This prospective study analysed the lateral cephalometric radiographs of 59 dentate, white, Caucasian males. Thirty-five patients with proven obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) formed the experimental group, while 24 subjects with no history of respiratory disease acted as controls. Radiographs were traced and digitized, and both hard and soft tissue features were compared between the groups. The p...
